Dressing your curves

Dresses are great for office wear, after-hours activities and more. Try these dress styles to highlight your assets and dress your curves:

Peplum
For women who are looking to bring attention to their waists, this style is perfect. Peplum dresses have a snug-fitting top and end in a short ruffle at the natural waist. The flair of the ruffle adds some flair to your hips while accentuating your waist. This is also a great style to try in a top.

Check out the Monroe and Main guide to dressing.

Hi-lo dress
Also referred to as “tuxedo” style, hi-lo dresses are longer in the back than the front. The difference between the dress’s front and back should only be a few inches. This look elongates your legs. Choose one in a silky fabric, and the flow and volume of the skirt will hide your hips and bottom. Choose a knee-length frock with a nipped-in waist to appear slimmer. Look for a hi-lo dress with three-quarter-length sleeves if you aren’t interested in showing your upper arms. A V-neck will elongate your torso and bring attention to your bust and face. Choose a hi-lo wrap dress if you want to accentuate a smaller waist.

Patterns
Patterns are a great way to show your personal style and highlight your curves. Try a dress in vertical stripes with one horizontal stripe at the waist, it will make you appear slimmer. Diagonal stripes can bring in your waist and hide your hips while showing off your bust. Small patterns can make you look wider than you are, so be sure to shop for big, bold patterns.

Lace
Try a dress with lace sleeves or a lace neckline. These will draw attention to your shoulders and face while hiding your upper arms. Plus, lace adds some fun yet sophisticated texture to your look.

Ruffles
Dresses with ruffles are great for accenting the parts of your body that you want to show off. Look for a dress with a ruffle that starts at your natural waist and ends at the hem to add flair to your look. It will also guide attention to your legs and up to your waist. Wear a dress with a vertical ruffle from you natural waist to mid-thigh to slim and lengthen your body.

Slit sleeves
To show a peek of skin on your upper arm, try a dress with slit sleeves. These are great for women who are looking to add some sophisticated allure to their look. You can hide the troublesome underside of your upper arms while still showing some skin through the slits. Try a slit-sleeve dress with a pencil skirt bottom to bring attention to your legs and neckline. You’ll look slim and stunning.
