Guide to plus-size jeans

Jeans are one of the most versatile items of clothing a woman can own. They can be worn to work, date nights, outings with friends and more. That’s why it’s so important to find the right pair that fits properly and gives you the look you want. We’ve created a guide to plus-size jeans to help you find some jeans you love.

Fit
Don’t go for jeans that are baggy. They should fit your curves and make you look and feel slimmer.

Find a pair that sits at the waist. Low-rise jeans are a no-go because they contribute to the creation of muffin tops. Make sure the jeans are snug enough to not slide down when you bend over. They also shouldn’t be so tight that they create an uncomfortable overflow above the top of the waistband.

Some women want to accentuate their butt by wearing skinny jeans. Others may feel more confident in a boot-cut pair. Try straight-leg jeans for the perfect middle ground. They slim your butt and thighs and are perfect for wearing with heels. A good rule of thumb is to look for balance between the width of the bottom of your pants and the widest point of your body. If you have wide hips, try jeans that flare out to the same width as your hips.

Stretch is important when working with denim. Jeans should be stretchy enough to be slimming but not feel as if you were wearing spandex workout pants. Look for jeans made of a heavier fabric that is a little stiff when you first try them on. These will last longer and keep their shape. Check the tag to see what fabrics the pants are made of. Pick a pair with 2 percent lycra or spandex. This will allow you just enough give to move about but won’t cause the pants to wear out easily.

Color
Darker colors are slimming. Try a dark-wash denim for work and going out. Go for a patterned or printed pair to add some flair to your office wardrobe. You can even wear dark purple or burgundy for some unexpected color. Avoid jeans with a fading pattern on the thighs. This draws attention to an area that you may be trying to cover up.

Embellishments
Pay attention to the pockets. The design and placement of pockets can do a world of good for women with a curvy butt and thighs. If you are looking to make your bottom appear smaller, try on a pair of dark-colored boot-cut jeans that have large pockets. The pockets will help to minimize your bottom and the dark color will slim your entire lower half. For women with flat bottoms, higher-placed detailed pockets are the way to go. They will make the wearer’s butt seem rounded. A good tip to keep in mind when considering pockets is that they should never end before the curve of your behind starts. If they do, your butt will appear flat. A pair with larger pockets that end below where your curve starts will help to minimize your bottom and lengthen your legs.

No woman is one size only in jeans. The sizing varies between brands and even clothing lines within the same brand.

Try multiple sizes
No woman is one size only in jeans. The sizing varies between brands and even clothing lines within the same brand. Do not get discouraged if you are several different sizes across multiple brands. It is important to order a pair that is bigger and one that is smaller than what size you think you are as well as one that is the size you think you are. This will help you find the right fit and learn what looks best on your body. Return the pairs that don’t fit and enjoy your new, stylish jeans.

  1. This is really helpful. I have a hard time finding jeans that fit…

  2. Thank you. That first picture is exactly the jean I am looking for – do you know the brand/style?

  3. This guide would be really helpful. My sister is a little curvy and I think it would be really helpful for her to choose a perfect Swimsuit for herself.
