There are so many great things about autumn. From the trips to the cider mills, to the comfortable breeze that rustles the leaves, nothing quite compares to the excitement of fall fashion. As great as sandals and sundresses seemed in May, many women find themselves getting bored with having to dress for the sweltering heat, welcoming the cozy staples of fall. One of the pieces we’re awaiting the return of is the long tunic. Here are some tips to wearing this fall favorite.
Accessorize accessorize accessorize
Some tunics, especially ones that have beading or embellishments along the neckline, don’t need to be accessorized. However, some women feel uncomfortable in tunics that are too loose. A great way to combat this would be to accessorize your tunic to flatter your figure, rather than hide it. Wear a belt at your natural waist to cinch the flowing fabric, or wear a short, form-fitted jacket along with it. These small adjustments, can make all the difference when it comes to adding shape to your outfit. Since the weather is changing, it’s also a good time to bust out those scarves that have been hiding in the closet all summer. A flowy fashion scarf and some chunky wide cuff bracelets will give your outfit a carefree, boho vibe – which is very “in” this season.
Pants or no pants?
Once in a while, there will be one of those surprisingly hot days in the middle of fall. Many women wonder if it’s ever acceptable to wear a tunic as a without bottoms. If it’s warm outside, and your tunic is a conservative length, go for it! However, not all tunics are that long. If you’re unsure if your tunic is long enough to combat potential wardrobe malfunctions, wear a pair of shorts beneath it. Make sure the shorts are just long enough to peak out of the bottom. Opaque tights are also a good option if you’re uncertain about wearing your tunic without pants.
“Pair your tunic with a tapered pant.”
Choose your bottoms wisely
The fact that tunics are loose-fitting and comfortable is what makes them so charming. How flattering your tunic looks could depend on what else you wear it with. For example, wearing a maxi skirt or flared jeans with a loose top can make your whole outfit look messy. Instead, pair your tunic with leggings, skinny jeans or other type of slender, tapered pant. If you’re nervous about wearing leggings because you feel they’re too tight across your backside, tunics are the perfect way to rock them!
How about shoes?
The great thing about tunic tops is that just about any shoe looks perfect with them. Elongate your legs with a pair of high heeled boots, or keep it casual with your favorite pair of pointy toe flats. Just about any fall shoes you have in your closet will look great with a tunic. If your top is patterned, go for a plain shoe, like a pair of suede booties. If your tunic is plain, however, spice it up with an embellished heel. Remember, since tunics are so versatile, how dressy or casual you look can completely depend on your shoe and accessory choices! This is great, because your tunic will likely be an investment that you’ll be able to wear to a variety of events.
