7 essentials to transition you from winter to spring

Spring weather has a mind of its own. One day the sun is out and the birds are chirping – perfect sundress and sandals weather; the following day is damp and cloudy, with no sign of the sun ever making it out from behind the clouds – cozy cardigan and closed-toed shoe weather. With the variations of weather, every woman needs a few key pieces in her closet that can cross the line between winter and spring.

Here are seven essentials to transition you between seasons:

1. Denim jacket

If you don’t have a jean jacket in your closet, this is your first and final warning to get one! This is a staple and versatile piece that can be dressed up or down. For the chillier days, layer it over a cardigan to provide the perfect amount of warmth. For springier weather, throw your denim jacket over a floral dress, or pair it with a camisole and palazzo pants. If the sun is beating down on your shoulders, take the jacket off and pay tribute to the ’90s and tie it around your waist.

2. Chambray button-down shirt

Much like the denim jacket, this article of clothing is pretty universal. Roll the sleeves up on warmer days, and for those cooler spring days, layer the shirt over a thin sweater. Your chambray shirt can be worn with skinny jeans or cutoff shorts. Throw a denim shirt over a basic tee or dress – it’s the perfect alternative to your go-to cardigan. Dress this look up by tucking the shirt into a printed skirt. Add a thin belt to cinch your waist and highlight your silhouette.

3. White jeans

Time to pull out those crisp, white jeans that you stored away last year. This article of clothing will be one of your main essentials for spring. For a date night, dress it up with a chic blouse and leather jacket. For your casual Friday attire at the office, pair the jeans with your chambray button-down or a basic tee with a jean jacket to finish off the look. Cuff the jeans at the bottom and slip on a pair of ankle boots and you’ll be the best dressed gal in town!

4. Cropped pants

If it’s still a little too chilly for skirts, shorts or dresses, opt for a pair of cropped pants. With a fitted blouse tucked into the pants and ankle boots, you’re dressed for any occasion. It’s always nice to show off a bit of skin after months of being bundled up. If you’re still a bit chilly, throw on that jean jacket of yours!

5. Ankle boots

Speaking of ankle boots, you’ll want to keep these out of winter storage for a bit longer. Transition this style shoe into the new seasons by wearing with your cuffed jeans, shorts, maxi skirts and even sundresses. For a casual day of shopping, a night out on the town, or another day at the office, your favorite ankle boots add a stylish vibe to your simple ensemble.

6. Lightweight scarves

You can wear those heavy winter scarves grandma knits for you every year but you still may want something to shield your neck from spring’s cool breeze. A lightweight, patterned fashion scarf will do just the trick. You can use this item to accessorize and complete your look, or you can simply throw it on as you’re heading out the door for extra warmth.

7. Slick shades

Are your shades all bent out of shape and scratched up from last year? Spring into the season with a stylish pair sunglasses to shield your eyes from the beaming rays. Try testing out different shapes this year to freshen up your look.
