Holiday party tips for women of any size

Soon co-workers and friends will gather to celebrate the myriad of upcoming holidays. The major dilemma? What to wear. We’ve come up with some tips on how to dress for a holiday party, no matter your shape or size.

Go for glamour
The holidays are full of embellishments, from the Christmas tree and garlands to baubles around the house. Add to the decor by dressing yourself in sequins and sparkles. For some dramatic flair,Ā go for a fullyĀ sequined piece like a bright blazer orĀ dress.Ā  If you’re afraid of looking too shiny,Ā add some small touches to your outfit, like crystal earrings and a necklace or a pair of funky bright shoes. You’ll still look snazzy and festive even if you’re not comfortable in a totally bedazzled look.

We've got some tips on what to wear to holiday parties.

Ravishing red
Fall colors are on their way out with the season,Ā and winter hues are in. For a bold, confident look, try clothing in the color red. You’ll feel courageous and self-assured in a red dress. If you love your legs,Ā look for an A-line dress that flares out and stops just above or below the knees. Add a pair of strappy blackĀ heels and you will look slim and polished. Red is a great color that is grown up,Ā yet fun,Ā and can be worn by anyone.

Give tulle a try
Tulle isn’t just for kids and ballerinas. Not everything with tulle is as voluminous as a tutu. Try a full skirt with tulle layering if you want to accentuate your waist. It should have enough volume to give you some definition but not make you feel like you’re about to perform in “The Nutcracker.” Show off your legs and go for a knee-length tulle skirt. If you’re going to a more formal affair,Ā try a full-length skirt or dress with tulle under layersĀ to add some volume and create an hourglass figure.

Tantalizing tights
While nude nylons can make your legs appear tan and have a smoothing effect on your skin,Ā there are also plenty of other tights options that canĀ add some unexpected patterns and colors to your holiday party look. Try a sheer black pair if you’re going out with your girlfriends or on a date and solid-colored knit tights for work.Ā For a fun touch of whimsy,Ā try tights with polka dots or a knit pattern. You can pair unique tights with just about any dress or skirt, but the be sure to wear a simple outfit if you choose to wear particularly noticeable tights. Groom your toes before trying them on –Ā you don’t want a sharp nail to cause a run.

Layer up in lace
Lace is aĀ wonderful way to show just the right amount of skin. Do you have an ample bust that you want to showĀ off without revealing too much? Try a dress or shirt that has two layers, a solid bottom layer like a camisole or tank andĀ a lace layer over top. If you want to take attention away from your upper arms,Ā look for a top or dress that has three-quarter-length lace sleeves. The beautiful pattern will get all the attention, and you’ll feel stunning.
